What is a Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation (enlargement) at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery involves the placement of breast implants to create a fuller bust line, enhance breast size and shape, and produce the more proportional breast appearance desired by many women.

It is important to note that although breast enhancement will increase the size of the breast, it will not change their position on the chest if they are loose or saggy. For some women, breast enlargement alone may not yield an aesthetically satisfying result. In those instances, the operation may be combined with a mastopexy, or breast lift procedure.

What is a Breast Augmentation Procedure Like?

During the procedure, an implant is placed under the breast chest muscle or under the breast tissue. The location of the incision made during the procedure will determine the appearance of the resulting scar, and Dr. Sozer make every effort to use incisions that will minimize or hide the scar. Incisions can be hidden in the breast crease, around the areola, or in the axilla (armpit).

The breast augmentation procedure results are optimized when the patient and their surgeon have a good understanding of the desired goals. Therefore, it is important for patients to relay their expectations of the breast enlargement procedure when they consult with Dr. Sozer . During your breast augmentation consultation, you and your surgeon will also discuss your ideas about breast size and any other bothersome issues that relate to the breasts.

Using state-of-the-art Vectra 3D imaging technology, we can give our patients a preview of what they may look like after breast augmentation. Patients can see how different sizes, shapes, and types of breast implants may look, helping them make the right decisions about their breast augmentation surgery.

At El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, we offer several types of implants that have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Saline implants

Saline implants are filled with the desired amount of solution after they are placed. FDA has approved them for patients who are 18 years or older. May result in visible wrinkling or rippling.

Silicone implants

Silicone implants (a soft elastic gel) are pre-filled and may require a longer incision for placement. The FDA has approved them for patients who are 22 years or older. Silicone implants have a natural breast look and feel.

SoftTouch Cohesive breast implants

SoftTouch Cohesive breast implants are designed for increased fullness and a soft feel. The FDA has approved them for patients who are 22 years or older.

Gummy Bear implants

Gummy Bear implants are designed for a teardrop-shaped look that mirrors the natural breast curve appearance. Gummy Bear implants now come in a round shape implant. The FDA has approved them for patients who are 22 years or older.

What is Recovery Like After a Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation patients can go home the same day of their surgery, and they can go back to performing moderate activities within a week to ten days. Vigorous activities such as sports and activities involving arm movement should be avoided for three to four weeks. Patients may return to all of their normal activities in about three months.

Patients may experience some changes in nipple or breast sensation, but this usually subsides within a month or two.

Am I a Good Breast Augmentation Candidate?

If you feel that you fit one or more of the following conditions, you may be a good candidate for breast augmentation:

  • You feel that your breasts are too small
  • You feel self-conscious when wearing a form-fitting top or a swimsuit
  • Your breasts have become smaller and/or have lost their firmness or shape after weight loss or giving birth
  • One of your breasts is noticeably smaller than the other
