Hair Loss Treatments in El Paso, Texas
By age 50, nearly half of all men – and a significant number of women – are affected by hair loss. Much of this hair loss is hereditary; however, other factors also play a role in hair loss. At our El Paso, Texas practice, we offer hair restoration surgery and transplants to help our patients regain their confidence. We use a state-of-the-art micro-hair transplantation technique that has replaced methods of the past that used “plugs” or larger grafts of hair, which were often noticeable. With our modern techniques, no one will know you’ve had hair restoration surgery because the transplants are so small that they’re practically undetectable.
Hair Transplantation Technique
Hair restoration and transplantation surgery is a fairly simple, outpatient procedure during which our surgeon places real hair into the balding area(s). This hair continues to grow naturally after the procedure. At our West Texas office, we offer micro-hair transplantation (individual hair micrograft restoration) that is performed under local anesthesia. The transplantation process requires the placement of hundreds of micro-grafts, each containing between one and three hairs. These micro-grafts are taken from a donor site on the side or back of the head, and are randomly implanted in the treatment area so that they will grow in a natural pattern.
Within about six weeks of hair restoration surgery, the transplanted hair falls out and is replaced as new hair grows in during the next three months. Several transplantation sessions may be necessary to achieve the desired hair density.
Hair Transplantation Benefits
Hair transplants offer many benefits compared to other hair loss treatments. These benefits include:
- Hair transplantation produces permanent results. Once the series of transplant procedures are complete, there is no need for additional surgeries.
- Transplantation restores a youthful, natural-looking appearance while creating positive psychological effects, including a boost in confidence.
- Over time, hair restoration surgery is less expensive when compared to other hair loss treatments.
Hair Transplantation Considerations
If you are trying to decide whether hair restoration surgery with transplants is the right hair loss treatment option for you, please take these issues into consideration:
- You must have an adequate density of healthy hair for a donor area. For patients with very large areas of baldness, hair transplantation may be combined with other surgical procedures to produce optimal results.
- The hair transplantation process is time consuming and often requires multiple sessions spaced over one to two years.
- Patients should not resume normal activities for several days after a transplantation procedure.
- Patients may experience minor discomfort, bruising, and swelling from the hair transplantation procedure.
- Some patients may experience numbness around the donor or recipient site, but this typically disappears within two to three months of surgery.
- Patients should have realistic expectations about the nature and extent of transplanted hair growth. Coarseness, curl, and other individual hair characteristics can affect the density and overall appearance of the transplanted hair.
