Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is a perfect way to get rid of your muffin top or love handles if you haven’t been able to through diet and exercise alone. Whether you have weakened abdominal muscles, excess skin around the midsection, or you are slender but struggling to flatten the belly pooch, we can help you with the right abdominoplasty procedure.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes the excess loose skin and fat that tends to accumulate around the abdomen. The procedure tightens, firms, and restores weakened or separated abdominal muscles, creating a smoother and firmer midsection profile.

Both men and women can feel unhappy with the appearance of their abdominal areas. However, due to pregnancy, women are more frequently concerned with common issues relating to the abdominal area, such as stretch marks, laxity of the abdominal wall, and loosening of the skin. Women also naturally accumulate more fat in this area due to hormonal changes incurred during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What is a Tummy Tuck Procedure Like?

At your initial consultation, Dr. Sozer will examine your abdomen and decide which tummy tuck procedure will be necessary to produce the desired result. The number of stretch marks you have, the extent of skin elasticity, and the condition of the abdominal wall will also determine the complexity of your tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedure recommended.

There are different types of tummy tucks that are performed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery:

  • Mini Abdominoplasty
  • Standard Abdominoplasty
  • Extended Abdominoplasty
  • Fleur de lis Abdominoplasty
  • Circumferential Lift

Scarring

The length of the scar can vary depending on the type of abdominoplasty performed. The abdominoplasty scar will fall along the natural crease of a bikini line where it will be most easily concealed. With time, the scar will fade.

However, scar visibility can vary depending on the type of abdominoplasty performed and each individual’s natural healing process. We recommend medical-grade scar products that can help minimize the appearance of the scar, and there are other laser treatments that can help as well.

What is Recovery Like After a Tummy Tuck?

Recovery time following tummy tuck surgery varies greatly among individuals. Depending on your general physical condition and the extent of your abdominoplasty surgery, you may be able to return to non-strenuous activities and your work from one to three weeks after surgery. Many patients can resume their normal activities, including mild exercise, after five weeks. It is normal to experience mild, periodic discomfort and swelling during recovery.

A surgical compression garment will be provided at our facility. It is recommended to wear the garment up to four weeks post-procedure. Your surgeon will indicate when it is best to discontinue.

Am I a Good Tummy Tuck Candidate?

Tummy tuck procedures can be extremely beneficial for men and women who have loose or protruding abdominal areas that make them mentally and/or physically uncomfortable.

You may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck if you:

  • Have an abdomen that protrudes or is disproportionate to the rest of your body
  • Have sagging or excess abdominal skin
  • Have extra fatty tissue in the abdominal area
  • Have separated or weakened abdominal muscles
  • Are close to your ideal weight
  • Are in good health and ideally have a BMI of <30
  • Have a positive outlook and realistic expectations of what surgery can achieve
  • Are a non-smoker
