How Long After Breast Augmentation Until I Can Workout?

Are your breasts not the shape or size you would like them to be? Have they lost volume with childbirth or age? If so, you’re not alone. Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. At El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Sozer perform hundreds of breast augmentations a year to help women feel more confident in their bodies.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a procedure that uses implants to enhance the size of the breasts. Women may choose to undergo augmentation simply because they want fuller breasts, or the procedure may be used to correct asymmetrical breasts or restore volume lost after nursing, weight loss, or with age.

We offer various implant options to help you achieve your ideal breasts. These include saline, silicone, and gummy bear implants. Implants come in different sizes and shapes depending on your needs, and with our Vectra 3D imaging technology, you’ll be able to see a preview of what your breasts will look like with multiple implant options.

During your breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Sozer will place your chosen implants either under the breast muscle or just under the breast tissue. They will minimize scarring as much as possible with incisions around the areola, in the breast crease, or in the armpit.

How Long is Recovery for Breast Augmentation?

You’ll be able to go home the same day of your surgery, but we recommend that a friend or family member drive you and stay with you for at least the first night. Most patients return to work after about a week. During this time, you can expect some swelling and discomfort.

To promote circulation, it’s a good idea to do some gentle walking each day as you recover. Everyone’s healing process is unique, but typically, you should wait a month before resuming most exercise. Heavy lifting and strenuous chest exercises may need to wait six weeks or more.

Breast Augmentation Results

After your breast augmentation with implants, your implants may sit a little higher for the first several weeks, and swelling may obscure your results. You’ll start enjoying the full results of your procedure after a month or two.

Breast implants provide long-lasting volume enhancement. Your implants should last 10 years or more. It’s typically recommended to have implants replaced or removed after a decade to prevent complications.
