What to Expect After a Chemical Peel?

Imagine your ideal skin rejuvenation treatment. How often would you have to get treatment, and how much downtime would you have? Chemical or facial peels let you make these choices with your El Paso Cosmetic Surgery provider, giving you smoother, more even skin on your schedule so you can get back to your daily activities.

Chemical Peels El Paso & Juarez

How Does a Chemical Peel Work?

A chemical peel is usually applied to your face, although some can be used on the body. At El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, we offer chemical peels using ingredients such as glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids. These acids work by removing the dead, dull layers of skin cells on the surface, allowing healthier new cells to appear from beneath. This process is known as chemical exfoliation, and it leaves skin smoother and more even-toned.

What to Expect After a Chemical Peel

Chemical peels range from light, no-downtime peels to very deep ones. Our peels fall into the range most people prefer, minimizing downtime while maximizing results. While each person’s experience will be different, your facial peel will usually not affect your daily routine.

Chemical Peel Downtime

You can return to your usual activities after your peel with no downtime required. Your skin may look flushed or red for up to a few days, and you will need to avoid sun exposure after treatment. Avoid the use of harsh or irritating products for a few days. We recommend waiting 24 hours to resume your usual exercise routine.

Chemical Peel Results

Most people will need four to six peels to achieve their desired results, although the number will depend on the type and severity of your skin concerns. Your skin will look brighter and smoother immediately after your peel and will continue to improve after each session.

We recommend occasional maintenance treatments, although how often you need one will vary. Some people have peels as often as once a month to keep their skin in optimal condition, while others may have one once or twice a year.

What Do Facial Peels Treat?

Peels can address a wide range of skin issues and are targeted to your needs. You may choose a facial peel to treat:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Rough texture
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Acne scars

We will customize your chemical peel treatment plan to focus on the issues that bother you most. Many people find these peels a less expensive option than lasers or other methods.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

Our selection of chemical peels is gentle enough for almost anyone’s skin, although those who are very sensitive or have very reactive skin may want to try a different option. Good candidates can be of almost any age and seeking help for many different skin problems. You might not be a good candidate if you have certain medical conditions or are pregnant.
