Liposuction, a surgical procedure that removes excess deposits of fat, is the most popular procedure performed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery. It is a suitable body contouring procedure for patients of almost any age, and can help you attain the body contour that you desire. In addition to removing areas of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise, we can also use liposuction techniques for moderate weight loss surgery.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Both men and women can be unhappy with the appearance of their abdominal areas; however, because of pregnancy, women tend to have more issues relating to the abdominal area, such as stretch marks, laxity of the abdominal wall, and loosening of the skin. Women also accumulate more fat because of hormonal changes incurred during pregnancy and breast-feeding. At our El Paso, Texas practice, we offer abdominoplasty, also called a “tummy tuck,” to improve the contours of the abdomen. Abdominoplasty removes the excess skin and fat that tends to accumulate around the abdomen, and tightens and firms the entire area that can be resistant to diet and exercise.
Tummy Tuck Candidates
If you have any of the following conditions, you may be a good candidate for abdominoplasty:
- An abdomen that is our of proportion with the rest of your body or that protrudes
- Sagging or excess abdominal skin
- Extra fatty tissue in the abdominal area
- Separated or weakened abdominal muscles
At your initial consultation, one of our surgeons will examine your abdomen to decide whether liposuction alone or a tummy tuck will be necessary to produce the desired result. The amount of stretch marks you have, the extent of skin elasticity, and the condition of the abdominal wall will determine the complexity of your abdominoplasty procedure.
Once the decision to proceed is made, we will make arrangements for your abdominoplasty procedure at our El Paso, Texas, office. We will then explain where the incisions will be made, and we also will obtain information about your medical history and any allergies you may have.
Tummy Tuck Side Effects
Possible complications of tummy tuck include infection, bleeding, problems with healing, the collection of blood or fluid under the tissues, and an adverse reaction to anesthesia.
Tummy Tuck Alternatives
Certain patients, depending on the extent of skin stretching, skin elasticity, and desired results, may be good candidates for an endoscopic tummy tuck or miniabdominoplasty. With an endoscopic tummy tuck at our El Paso, Texas, practice, the incision is limited in comparison to traditional abdominoplasty and produces outstanding results.
The best candidates for this procedure have laxity of the abdominal wall but absence of loose skin or stretch marks. For more information about tummy tuck options offered at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, contact our West Texas cosmetic surgery practice today.
Tummy Tuck Recovery
Recovery time following tummy tuck surgery varies greatly among individuals. Depending on your general physical condition and the extent of your abdominoplasty surgery, you may be able to return to non-strenuous activities from one to three weeks after surgery. Many patients can resume their normal activities, including mild exercise, within a few weeks. It is normal to experience mild, periodic discomfort and swelling during recovery.
Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
As people age or gain weight, the upper arms can sag, creating an aesthetically unpleasant effect. Brachioplasty, or upper arm lift, can correct this sagging, giving arms a firm, toned appearance.
Arm lift surgery can be performed on many types of patients. Both men and women of normal weight with more excess skin than fat are good candidates for brachioplasty. It is ideal for people who have lost large amounts of weight, but whose skin has not conformed to their new body shape.
There are several approaches to arm lift surgery, and we will tailor your procedure to your individual needs. Liposuction alone is often the best treatment for patients with minimal excess upper arm fat and no extra skin. We can typically remove extra skin near the armpit throughout an incision hidden in the armpit. For patients with extensive extra upper arm skin, which is common for those who have lost a lot of weight, the incision will run from the elbow through the armpit and onto the side of the chest.
Thigh Lift and Spiral Lift
Excess skin between the thighs can be both a cosmetic and comfort concern. Thigh lift removes this excess skin so that the thighs do not rub together, making movement more comfortable and creating a more aesthetically contoured leg.
Thigh Lift Candidates
Both men and women experience satisfying results after undergoing medial or upper thigh lift procedures. The ideal candidate will have more excess skin than fat around the upper thigh, though some fat may be removed during the procedure as well. This procedure works especially well for patients who have lost a large amount of weight and want to complete their transformation by eliminating remaining skin.
Some patients may benefit from a “Spiral Lift”, a procedure developed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery that results in a circumferential lift of the thighs with a buttock lift and augmentation. Read our paper about the Spiral Lift to learn more about this procedure read PDF
For people who have lost an excessive amount of weight, post bariatric reconstruction, or body contouring, can be the end to a long and exciting journey. Designed specifically for each patient, post bariatric reconstruction eliminates excess skin that is common after weight loss.
The Post-bariatric Plastic Surgery Procedure
The post-bariatric reconstruction procedure varies greatly from patient to patient and depends on where excess skin is concentrated, the patient’s goals for the procedure, and our determination of how best to meet those goals. During post bariatric reconstruction, we can combine brachioplasty (arm lift), thigh lift, and tummy tuck, among other procedures, into one operation. The procedure generally takes longer than most single cosmetic procedures, but produces outstanding results.
Butt Augmentation and Lift
Often, people who experience dramatic weight loss, particularly after bariatric surgery, find themselves with buttocks that are disproportionately flat or otherwise lacking an aesthetically pleasing contour. To address this problem, we often perform a butt augmentation and lift as part of a comprehensive lower body lift. While many surgeons use artificial buttock implants to restore shape to the gluteal region, Dr. Sozer at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery developed a procedure that uses the patient’s own tissue to create a natural flap that adds projection to the buttocks. This safe, highly effective method of butt augmentation and lift allows patients to achieve a smoother, more refined result that perfectly complements their new physique. Learn more about this procedure that Dr.Sozer created by reading this article (PDF).
Alternatively, gluteal augmentation can be achieved with fat injections. This is an effective and reliable technique for patients who wish a moderate buttock augmentation while avoiding a large scar.
Regardless of the technique ultimately used, patients can expect superior results that are completely natural.

Performed at almost any age, Vaser Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes unwanted fat deposits. Performed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery in West Texas, Vaser Liposuction is our most popular procedure and it is also the most well-known aesthetic surgery procedure throughout the country.
Vaser liposuction candidates
Women and men who have almost a normal weight but who have isolated deposits of fat in certain areas of the body are good candidates for liposuction. Best results are obtained when the skin has good elasticity. When skin lacks elasticity, you may need a procedure to tighten and achieve the desired result.
Vaser liposution areas
Almost any part of the body can benefit from Vaser liposuction, including cheeks, neck, upper arms, breasts, back, abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, inner knee, and ankles. Patients who constantly gain and lose weight are not candidates for Vaser liposuction because if permanent changes are not implemented in lifestyle to stabilize weight, the results will not be satisfactory. During your initial consultation at our office in El Paso, Texas, we will examine and evaluate the target areas of consideration for liposuction and discuss questions related to general health and weight management in order to determine if Vaser liposuction is the correct solution.
Vaser liposuction procedure
Fat is removed by inserting a small hollow tube called a cannula into one or more small incisions near the treatment area. The incisions are usually less than a quarter of an inch long and placed in natural skin folds, making them less visible. There are several Vaser liposuction machines: conventional ultrasound machines and mechanical machines. None of these techniques has proven to be superior to the others, but Dr. Sozer may prefer to use one or a combination according to your body type.
During surgery, the treatment area is instilled with a tumescent solution containing local anesthetic, water, and other drugs that reduce bleeding during liposuction. After injecting the liquid in the target area, the cannula is inserted and one of the Vaser liposuction machines described above removes the fat.
After Vaser liposuction
Due to swelling and bruising that occur after surgery, clothes normally worn may fit tightly. To ensure proper healing and desired results, you should wear special garments in areas where Vaser liposuction was performed for four to six weeks. The swelling and bruising will subside, usually within a few weeks, at which point you will wear your regular clothes. It takes two months or sometimes longer, for the swelling (inflammation) to disappear completely.
If you are struggling with areas of fat in your body that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise, Tumescent Liposuction may be right for you. At El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, we specialize in Tumescent Liposuction, a procedure which is more effective, safer, less painful and has a quicker recovery time than traditional liposuction. Good Tumescent Liposuction candidates are individuals who are in relatively good shape and have good skin quality, but have trouble losing unwanted fat in specific areas including the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck.
