Post-Bariatric Reconstruction Procedure Options
Dr. Sozer recommends for bariatric patients to be at least 18 months post bariatric surgery and have plateaued with their weight for at least 6 months before considering surgery.
The Post-Bariatric Reconstruction procedures vary greatly from patient to patient and only need to undergo the procedures that will help achieve your desired results. For more information on the procedures, please search for the individual procedure on tab selection.
Procedures may include:
Abdominoplasty removes the excess skin and fat that tends to accumulate around the abdomen and tightens and firms the entire area that can be resistant to diet and exercise. Candidates for a tummy tuck may have the following conditions:
- An abdomen that is out of proportion with the rest of your body or that protrudes
- Sagging or excess abdominal skin
- Extra fatty tissue in the abdominal area
- Separated or weakened abdominal muscles
After evaluation, Dr. Sozer will recommend which Tummy Tuck procedure is best for you. Types of Tummy Tucks performed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery are:
- Mini tummy tuck
- Standard tummy tuck
- Extended tummy tuck
- Circumferential lift
As people fluctuate weight, the upper arms can sag, creating an aesthetically unpleasant effect. An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes or reduces excess sagging or drooping skin from your arms giving a firmer, toned appearance.
Arm lift surgery can be performed on many types of patients. Both men and women of normal weight with more excess skin than fat are good candidates for brachioplasty. It is ideal for people who have lost large amounts of weight, but whose skin has not conformed to their new body shape.
After evaluation, Dr. Sozer will recommend which arm lift procedure is best for you. Types of arm lifts performed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery are:
- Short Scar Brachioplasty
- Standard Brachioplasty
- Extended Brachioplasty
Excess skin between the thighs can be both a cosmetic and comfort concern. A thigh lift removes this excess skin so that the thighs do not rub together, making movement more comfortable and creating a more aesthetically contoured leg.
Both men and women experience satisfying results after undergoing medial or upper thigh lift procedures. The ideal candidate will have more excess skin than fat around the upper thigh, though some fat may be removed during the procedure as well. This procedure works especially well for patients who have lost a large amount of weight and want to complete their transformation by removing the remaining skin.
After evaluation, Dr. Sozer will recommend which thigh lift procedure is best for you. Types of thigh lifts performed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery are:
- Spiral Lift
- Medial Thigh Lift
- Extended Medial Thigh Lift
Throughout their lives, women are exposed to multiple factors that can negatively impact their breast appearance. Genetics, gravity, loss of skin elasticity from aging, and weight gain and loss can all negatively affect breast shape and firmness.
There are several types of breast procedures and we will tailor your procedure to your individual needs. Based on evaluation, you may need the following procedure:
- Breast augmentation
- Breast Lift (Mastopexy) with or without augmentation
- Breast Reduction
- Gynecomastia (for men)
Liposuction is a procedure that removes unwanted deposits of fat from the stomach, hips, thighs, arms, neck, and many other areas of the body with the goal of producing a more proportionate body contour. In addition to removing areas of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise, we can also use liposuction techniques for moderate weight loss surgery.
Women and men who are of almost normal weight but who have isolated deposits of fat in certain areas of the body are generally good candidates for liposuction. Optimal results are achieved when the skin has good elasticity.
El Paso Cosmetic Surgery has several types of liposuction technology and based on your needs, Dr. Sozer may recommend one or a combination types of liposuction.
- Vaser Liposuction
- Smartlipo Triplex
- Tumescent Liposuction
Loss of tissue elasticity can occur with rapid weight loss and expansion and stretching of skin. This sagging skin commonly develops around the face and neck after bariatric surgery.
A face and neck lift raises the cheek pads, corrects the jowls, and removes the loose and sagging skin from the neck, and face.
During the initial consultation at our practice, Dr. Sozer will examine your face and neck, pointing out multiple techniques that can be used during the facelift. Like any cosmetic surgery procedure, it is important for patients to have realistic expectations about their results.
Post-Bariatric Recovery and Results

Depending on your general physical condition and the extent of your surgery, you may be able to return to non-strenuous activities from two to four weeks after surgery. Many patients can resume their normal activities, including mild exercise, within a few weeks. It is normal to experience mild, periodic discomfort and swelling during recovery. Full results should be seen within 3-6 months post-surgery.

I have always been concerned with my health and the way I look. I exercise and eat healthy, but most of the times that is not enough, especially after having babies. I thought about having something done to improve the way I look, but I guess I was a little scared, until I met Dr. Sozer. I felt very confident about the way he explained everything to me, his knowledge, and care. I am fascinated with the results and if I decide to have something else done, I’ll definitely go back to Dr. Sozer. I will certainly recommend him.
