Buttock Lift For Men
Also, known as butt lift or gluteoplasty, this procedure requires excision of excess skin on the gluteal area. The buttock area is pulled upward and excess skin is trimmed away for a lean, toned appearance. A buttock lift requires an incision at the top of the buttocks and partially in the hips to remove excess skin and pull the remaining skin taut. Liposuction may be used to further contour the buttock area and achieve a well-balanced look. When a lift is performed, it tends to flatten the buttocks; therefore, Dr. Sozer developed a procedure to maintain and even accentuate the curvature of the buttock using natural tissue. This procedure is known as The Sozer Flap, which will be described below.
Candidates for a Buttock Lift
The best candidate for this procedure is a patient who has excess skin on the buttocks and is seeking an increase of fullness and/or roundness of the buttocks. You may also be a good candidate if:
- You have significant skin laxity, excess skin, and ptosis (sagginess) of the buttocks.
- A non-smoker. Smoking slows down the healing process and increases the risk of serious complications during and after surgery. If you smoke, you must quit at least six weeks before surgery.
- You have realistic expectations
- You are in overall good health without chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease. People in poor health are not good candidates and may need to obtain surgical clearance for plastic surgery from your primary care physician or from doctors treating you for medical conditions.
Buttock Augmentation Combination Options
When a buttock lift is required, 90% of the time, the patient will require some type of augmentation. Buttock lift with Augmentation is similar to breast procedures candidates. Not all patients require a lift and not all patients require an augmentation; however, if augmentation is also required, you do have options. A buttock lift removes the excess skin and does not necessarily augment the gluteal area. Some options that can be incorporated with a butt lift may include:
Fat Injections to Buttocks
The most common is the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) which uses harvested and transferred fat to augment the buttocks.
Another method is the use of buttock implants. Dr. Sozer or Dr. Phillips does not use buttock implants. At El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Sozer invented an alternative method of buttock implants described below.
The Sozer Flap
This procedure uses the patient’s own tissue to create a “living implant” which augments the buttock and improves its shape. Unlike the artificial buttock implant procedure, buttock contouring performed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery is safer because the implants are composed of the patient’s natural tissue. There are no additional incisions with this procedure as incision sites of the buttock lift is used to achieve the augmentation of the buttocks. This procedure is great for patients who do not have sufficient fat to harvest and transfer to the buttocks (BBL).
Buttock Lift Recovery
Two drains will be inserted; one on each buttock, to prevent the accumulation of fluid to the area. Drainage is normal and the amount varies from person to person. A drain will be removed usually within the first post-operative appointment (3-5 days); however, if drainage is still excessive, it may stay in a bit longer.
Like the Brazilian butt lift, you may sit on your buttocks immediately after surgery. Due to swelling and bruising after the surgery, you may not fit into the clothes that you would normally wear. To promote proper healing, you will need to wear a special garment over the treated areas for four to six weeks. The compression garments serve a few purposes: helps decrease the swelling and essential to the contouring process. Swelling and bruising will usually subside in a few weeks, at which point you will be able to wear your regular clothes again. Best results will become apparent 3-6 months after the procedure.
Depending on the occupation, most patients can go back to work within 5-10 days with some limitations.
Risks and Complications
All surgery has risks and potential complications. Although the risks are not common, it is important that you understand the potential complications and know that no surgeon can offer risk-free surgery or guarantee of perfect result. Your physician will discuss any possible risks in detail during your consultation and will be sure to answer any questions or concerns that may arise.
