Butt Augmentation & Lift
Due to weight loss, aging, pregnancy, and other factors, the tissue in the buttocks can lose its elasticity with time, leading to a flat, sagging appearance. A buttock lift can tighten the buttock tissue and skin, contouring the buttocks and improving the shape. However, a buttock lift does not change the size of the buttocks, and the buttocks may still appear unbalanced.
In many cases, patients will choose to also undergo a butt augmentation, which adds volume back to the buttocks, improving their size and projection and intensifying the contours of the body. Butt augmentation can also further improve the shape of the buttocks, creating a more rounded appearance.
What is a Buttock Lift?
A buttock lift, or gluteoplasty, involves the excision of excess skin in the gluteal area. The buttock area is pulled upward and excess skin is trimmed away for a more defined, toned appearance. Liposuction may be used to further contour the buttock area and achieve a well-balanced look.
What is a Butt Lift Procedure Like?
In your initial consultation with Dr. Sozer or Dr. Phillips, you will be examined, and your surgeon will give you a thorough explanation of what surgical options would best address your needs. Not all patients will require a lift, and not all patients will require an augmentation. However, if augmentation is also required, you have options that can be tailored to fit your surgical goals.
During a buttock lift, an incision is made along the top of the buttocks, extending partially over the hips. Through this incision, Dr. Sozer or Dr. Phillips will remove excess skin and pull the remaining skin taut. If you have decided to also undergo buttock augmentation, volume will then be added into the buttocks to enhance their size and shape. Options that can be incorporated with a butt lift include:
Fat Injections (Brazilian Butt Lift)
The most common type of buttock augmentation is the Brazilian butt lift (BBL), which uses the patient’s own fat to augment the buttocks. First, liposuction will be performed on an area of the body with excess fat, removing fat cells and contouring the shape of the body. The fat cells will then be cleaned and processed. Finally, they will be injected into the buttocks, improving the size, shape, and projection of the butt.
The Sozer Flap
Dr. Sozer developed a procedure to maintain and even accentuate the curvature of the buttock using natural tissue. This procedure uses the patient’s own tissue to create a “living implant” which augments the buttocks and improves their shape. Buttock contouring performed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery is safer than traditional buttock implants, as there is no foreign material being introduced to the body.
There are no additional incisions required, as incision sites of the buttock lift are also used to achieve the butt augmentation portion of the procedure. The Sozer flap is great for patients who do not have sufficient fat to harvest and transfer to the buttocks (BBL).
What is Recovery Like After a Buttock Lift?
During the procedure, two drains will be inserted, one in each buttock, to prevent the accumulation of fluid in the area. Drainage is normal and the amount varies from person to person. The drain is typically removed during the first post-operative appointment three to five days after the procedure. However, if drainage is still excessive, they may be required a bit longer.
You may sit on your buttocks immediately after surgery. Depending on their occupation, most patients can go back to work within five to ten days, with some limitations. Due to swelling and bruising, you may not immediately fit into the clothes that you would normally wear. To promote proper healing, you will need to wear a special garment over the treated areas for four to six weeks.
The compression garments help decrease the swelling and are essential to the contouring process. Swelling and bruising will usually subside within a few weeks, at which point you will be able to wear your regular clothes again. The most visible results will become apparent three to six months after the procedure.
Am I a Good Butt Augmentation and Lift Candidate?
Candidates for this procedure are patients with excess skin on the buttocks and who desire a more toned and/or fuller butt. You may also be a good candidate if you:
- Have significant skin laxity, excess skin, and ptosis (sagginess) of the buttocks
- Have flat buttocks that lack projection
- Are a non-smoker
- Have a positive outlook and realistic expectations
- Are in overall good health without medical conditions that may impair healing
The next step is to schedule your consultation. During your consultation, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Sozer or Dr. Phillips will evaluate you and discuss all your questions, concerns, and desires before undergoing surgery so you can have realistic expectations.
