Neck Lift

The neck can be one of the first places to show signs of aging. As our skin looses elasticity as we get older, excess skin can hang below the chin, creating an unflattering appearance. A neck lift can tighten the skin and muscles within the neck to create a more aesthetically pleasing neck and jawline.

What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift, also known as a cervicoplasty or platysmaplasty, is a procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the neck and jawline. Neck lifts are customizable procedures, and there are multiple methods to enhance the appearance of the neck. Common concerns that can be addressed with a neck lift include visible fat deposits, skin laxity, and muscle laxity in the neck.

What is a Neck Lift Procedure Like?

During your initial consultation at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Sozer assesses the entire neck and is able to address anything that is necessary to provide an aesthetic neck and jawline, pointing out multiple techniques that can be used during the neck lift procedure. It’s important to consider the specific areas you want to target for improvement, the desired length of recovery, and your post-surgical expectations.

There are different types of neck lift that are performed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery:

  • Deep neck lift
  • Central or Lateral Approach

The incisions for a neck lift procedure may be located in different areas, depending on the areas of concern and the extent of the surgery. A typical neck lift will be done through incisions hidden in the sideburns and around the back of the ears. Some neck lifts may also include an incision under the chin.

During the neck lift procedure, the excess skin, tissue, and fat are removed from the neck and under the chin. The skin is then re-draped to smooth wrinkling and create a more defined neck and jawline, and the muscles in the neck are tightened to create a more youthful appearance.
Neck lift surgeries can be complemented with other procedures for improved results, including liposuction, a chin augmentation, or a facelift.  Our Advanced Clinical Medical Spa also offers non-surgical options to improve the contour of the neck and jawline, including Coolsculpting®, Kybella®, Scarlet RF,  and Botox® (to release the neckbands). We also recommend the Neck, Chest, and Hand Repair Cream by SkinCeuticals®.

What is Recovery Like After a Neck Lift?

Recovery time following a neck lift surgery varies greatly among individuals. Depending on your general physical condition and the extent of your surgery, you may be able to return to non-strenuous activities two to three weeks after surgery

Bruising from a neck lift typically disappears in one to two weeks, but swelling may last longer. A significant portion of the swelling will subside in the first month, but final results will not be visible until six months after surgery.

Am I a Good Neck Lift Candidate?

Neck lift procedures can be performed on men and women of many ages who are unhappy with the loose appearance of their neck and jawline. A proper evaluation is best to see which surgical or non-surgical options would be best suited for you.

You may be a good candidate for a neck lift if you:

  • Have a small to medium amount of excess fat in your neck or under your chin
  • Have loose neck skin and/or loose neck muscles
  • Want a more defined neck and jawline, especially on your profile
  • Are healthy and do not have any medical conditions that may impair healing
  • Have a positive outlook and realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve
  • Are a non-smoker
