How Does Liposuction Work?

Liposuction is a very popular cosmetic procedure at El Paso Cosmetic surgery. It has been around for a long time, offering people the chance to slim down and remove excess body fat. There remains a lot of confusion about how the procedure works and who is a good candidate for it. Our expert team will always explain things thoroughly before deciding if you’re right for the treatment. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about how liposuction works.

Liposuction

A general description of liposuction treatment is that it uses advanced technology to remove unwanted fat deposits from certain body areas. Commonly, this includes problem areas such as the stomach, thighs, upper arms, neck, and hips

Preparation

Before undergoing this procedure, you will have a consultation with the surgeon. At this stage, they will assess if you are a good candidate, then provide preparatory measures to take. This will usually involve a medical evaluation, along with asking you to stop taking certain medications. Typically, you won’t be able to take any anti-inflammatory drugs or blood thinners as it can increase bleeding during the treatment. Anyone that smokes will also have to avoid doing this leading up to the procedure.

Procedure

Liposuction typically works by making tiny incisions and inserting a tiny tube into the treatment area. From here, the excess fat is essentially suctioned directly out of the body. You are given a choice as to what type of anesthesia you want – this can be local or general, depending on your preference. This ensures that you don’t feel a thing.

The exact procedure can vary depending on the type of liposuction you’ve chosen. We currently offer a range of liposuction treatments, including the traditional method alongside Vader Liposuction, Smartlipo Triplex, and Tumescent Liposuction.

Recovery

For 4-6 weeks, you will have to wear protective clothing and bandages over the treatment areas. This helps with the swelling and also keeps the skin tight to the body. In essence, this allows the skin to naturally adjust to your new body shape, preventing any excess skin folds. There will be some swelling and bruising, but this goes away within a few weeks. You should also feel fine enough to return to work and your daily activities within the first week after your surgery. Results are expected to be seen after 2-6 months following the liposuction procedure

Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?

It’s crucial to understand that liposuction is not a replacement for healthy living. If you want to lose weight, you have to exercise and follow a healthy diet. This procedure is aimed at people who have lost a lot of weight but can’t seem to lose fat from specific problem areas. If you have some stubborn belly fat that won’t go away, it could be perfect for you. Liposuction has also been used to treat obese people to start them off on a journey to better health. It can help to reduce overall body fat and make it easier for these individuals to start exercising and following a healthy lifestyle.
