Considering Voluma® XC
Voluma is a Hyaluronic Acid gel that can be injected on top of bony prominences to augment the appearance of bone. As the aging process progresses, bone structures can elongate creating hollowness, and in combination with decreased collagen production volume loss occurs to the face.
Great candidates for Voluma are the following:
- Flat and sunken cheeks/ flat apples of the cheek
- Sagging in the cheek and jawline area
- 18 years of age and up who desire a contoured cheek/ higher cheekbones
- Those looking for a treatment that provides real, noticeable results along with no surgery or recovery time.
How Voluma® XC Works
Voluma is the first and only FDA approved injectable gel filler for the cheek area. The hyaluronic acid gel filler is injected on top of bone by using a fine needle to provide instant volume to the cheeks. It can give a natural and soft lift to the cheeks creating the appearance of fuller or higher cheekbones. Voluma provides a natural looking result for a youthful profile, shedding years off your face. Voluma can also give you contoured cheek look, making your face appear slimmer for some patients. Voluma contains a local anesthetic called Lidocaine to help reduce the discomfort of the procedure. The number of syringes needed for augmentation depends on the volume loss and result expected by the patient. Allergan generally recommends one syringe per decade of a patient’s age.
Voluma® XC Treatment Areas
The most common and FDA approved area that Voluma is injected into is the cheeks. However, it is not only limited to that area. Having an Allergan Trainer on our team allows our experienced nurse injectors to safely inject Voluma to other off-label areas. These may include; chin and jawline.
Recovery & Results
There is no actual downtime with Voluma. However, it is recommended to sleep on your back for the first three nights post-injection as to not put any shifting pressure on the filler. Results are almost immediate with full results being seen in two weeks as swelling and bruising should be expected. Treatment results can last up to 2 years. Although, each patient is different and results can vary on a case to case basis. It is recommended to be treated on a regular basis determined by your provider to retain the best results.
