Breast Implants: Saline vs Silicone
Choosing the Right Implant and Size
Your breasts are unique and so are you. Results of the breast augmentation procedure are optimized when the patient and the surgeon have a good understanding of each other’s desires and goals. Therefore, it is important for patients to relay their expectations of the breast enlargement procedure when they consult with Dr. Sozer. During your breast augmentation consultation, you and Dr. Sozer will also discuss your ideas about breast size and any other bothersome issues that relate to the breasts.
Using state-of-the-art Vectra 3D imaging technology, we can give our patients a preview of what they may look like after breast augmentation. Patients can see how different sizes, shapes, and types of breast implant may look, helping them make the right decisions about their breast augmentation surgery. Please click on the Vectra 3D tab to learn more on this technology.
At El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, we offer several types of implants. Implants have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Saline and Silicone implants both consist of silicone outer shell; however, the difference is what is inside the implants.
- Saline implants
Natrelle® Cohesive Collection (Silicone)
- Natrelle® Inspira® (Cohesivity Level 1)
- Natrelle® Inspira® Soft Touch (Cohesivity Level 2) (Most commonly used and recommended)
- Natrelle® Inspira® Cohesive (True Gummy Implant) or Natellle® 410 (Cohesivity Level 3)
Implants are a silicone shell filled with saline (saltwater) solution. Saline-filled implants are inflated to the desired size with sterile saline. Patients who would like to undergo breast augmentation with Saline implants, must be at least 18 years of age.
- Shorter scar
- No silent rupture
- More volume choices
- Looks less natural
- May have visible rippling and folds
El Paso Cosmetic Surgery uses the newest generation of silicone implants. Silicone gel breast implants are filled with silicone gel. Patients who would like to undergo breast augmentation with Silicone Implants must be at least 22 years of age.
Natrelle® Inspira® collection is designed for upper pole fullness. Depending on the cohesivity of the implant, the fullness is determined. All of the Inspira® implant collection is a gummy bear implant, however, the higher the cohesivity, the more true gummy bear implant it is.
What is cohesivity? It is what determines how well the implant will keep its overall shape.
- More natural feeling (softer) and look
- Less risk of rippling
- No risk of deflation
- Long lasting
- Must be at least 22 years of age
- Implant ruptures are more difficult to notice (MRI required to detect)
