Liposuction

Liposuction is a popular procedure at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery that removes unwanted deposits of fat from the stomach, hips, thighs, arms, neck, and many other areas of the body with the goal of producing a more proportionate body contour.

Male liposuction is best incorporated with abdominal etching (six pack).  In some cases, liposuction fat can be transferred to the buttocks.

Candidates for Liposuction

Men who are of almost normal weight but who have isolated deposits of fat in certain areas of the body are generally good candidates for liposuction. Optimal results are achieved when the skin has good elasticity. When the skin lacks elasticity, an additional skin-tightening procedure may be necessary to produce the desired result.

Patients who are continuously gaining and losing weight are not good candidates for liposuction because if lifestyle changes are not permanently implemented to stabilize weight, the results will not be satisfactory. Patients who have loose or sagging skin, poor skin elasticity may not be a candidate for liposuction.

Procedure and Liposuction Technology

During the liposuction procedure, fat is removed by inserting a small hollow tube called a cannula into one or more tiny incisions near the treatment area. The incisions are usually less than a quarter of an inch and placed in natural skin folds, making them less visible. During liposuction, the area to be treated will be instilled with a tumescent solution containing local anesthetic and water that will reduce bleeding during the procedure and reduce pain, bruising, and swelling after the procedure. After injecting this fluid into the target area, the cannula is inserted and the fat removed.

We offer several liposuction techniques at our practice, including conventional, ultrasound assisted, and power-assisted methods. None of these techniques has proven superior to the others, but at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, we can tailor your liposuction procedure to your body type.

Smartlipo Triplex

Tissue can now be tightened thanks to an innovation we have at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery called Smartlipo TriPlex™, the most advanced laser-assisted lipolysis system available.  This minimally invasive procedure, Smartlipo TriPlex™, tightens tissue, permanently destroy fat cells, and improve your overall body shape and all with minimal downtime and less pain.

Tumescent Liposuction

At El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, we specialize in Tumescent Liposuction, a procedure which is more effective, safer, less painful and has a quicker recovery time than traditional liposuction. Good Tumescent Liposuction candidates are individuals who are in relatively good shape and have good skin quality, but have trouble losing unwanted fat in specific areas including the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck.

Liposuction Treatment Areas

It’s important to realize that the number of areas treated has no direct impact on safety. The amount recommended (not absolute limit) of fat removal is 5 litters.  Other factors such as height and weight can contribute to the amount of fat is removed.

Almost any part of the body can benefit from liposuction, including the neck, upper arms, breast, chest, back, abdomen, waist, hips, buttock, thighs, inner knee, and ankles.

Liposuction Recovery and Results

Due to swelling and bruising after the surgery, you may not fit into the clothes that you would normally wear. To promote proper healing, you will need to wear a special garment over the treated areas for four to six weeks. Swelling and bruising will usually subside in a few weeks, at which point you will be able to wear your regular clothes again. Your improved body contour will become apparent 2-6 months after the procedure. Most patients can go back to work within 3-5 days.

Liposuction is not a replacement for diet and exercise and is not considered a way to lose weight rather for body contouring.  The average weight loss is between 3-5lbs. Liposuction is permanent unless you fluctuate in weight or should become pregnant.

The cost of liposuction can range depending on each individual needs.  There is no price difference with the type of liposuction technology used; however, factors such as how many areas are needed and other external factors (surgical center fees, anesthesia fees, etc.) determine the cost as well.  The starting physician costs for liposuction is $1500 and up.  A proper evaluation is required to give you exact price.
