Chin Implants

A small chin or “weak chin” can make your whole face look less symmetrical. It can affect your appearance and perception of the way you want to look. A chin implant provides additional structure in the lower part of the face and feels like real bone.

Chin Augmentation Candidates

You may be a good candidate for chin augmentation surgery if:

  • Your chin is not symmetrical or proportioned to other face features
  • Want a more defined jawline
  • You are healthy individual and do not have any medical conditionals that may impair healing
  • Have realistic expectations and positive outlook
  • A non-smoker. Patients are asked to stop smoking approximately 2-3 weeks prior and after surgery.

Choosing the Right Chin Implant

Using state-of-the-art Vectra 3D imaging technology, we can give our patients a preview of what they may look like after a chin augmentation. Patients can see how different sizes, shapes, and types of chin implant may look, helping them make the right decisions about their chin augmentation surgery.

The precise type and size of your chin implant that suits you best also requires an evaluation by Dr. Sozer. During the initial consultation at our practice, Dr. Sozer will also examine your chin pointing out multiple techniques that can be used during the procedure. It’s important to consider the specific area you want targeted for improvement, desired length of recovery, and your post-surgical expectations. Implants have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Procedures Combined with Chin Augmentation

  • Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) with Chin Augmentation: when you do not have a portioned chin, your nose may appear larger and may be more dominate in your face.
  • Neck lift with Chin Augmentation: having a “weak chin” may fail to achieve a complete youthful and more distinct jawline. A combination of both can provide you with a that district jawline.

Chin Augmentation Recovery

Immediately after surgery, a dressing will be applied that will remain in place for 2 or 3 days. You may experience some tenderness. Dr. Sozer will provide post-operative medication for any discomfort. A liquid and soft food diet may be required for a few days after surgery. Most patients feel a stretched, tight sensation after the surgery, but this usually subsides in a week.  After approximately six weeks, most swelling will be gone, and you can enjoy the results of your procedure. Rigorous activity may be prohibited for the first few weeks after surgery. Normal activity can be resumed after approximately ten days.
