Candidates for an Ear Surgery?

This procedure can be performed at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery if you are at least 12 years of age and if surgical indication is present; therefore, a proper evaluation is best to see if surgery or non-surgical procedures are appropriate.  You may also be a good candidate if:

  • Have pronounced or protruding ears
  • You are healthy individual and do not have any medical conditionals that may impair healing
  • Have realistic expectations and positive outlook
  • A non-smoker. Patients are asked to stop smoking approximately 2-3 weeks prior and after surgery.

Procedure Technique

During the initial consultation at our practice, Dr. Sozer will examine your ears, pointing out multiple techniques that can be used during the otoplasty procedure. It’s important to consider the specific areas you want targeted for improvement, desired length of recovery, and your post-surgical expectations.

Any technique used will leave almost no visible marks. An incision is made behind or inside the ears.

Otoplasty (Ear Surgery):

Ear surgery usually performed by moving and pinning them closer the head. There are several ways the ear can be reshaped.

  1. Cutting out cartilage of the ear
  2. Folding and stitching of the cartilage
  3. Cartilage may be shaved

Otoplasty Recovery

After surgery, you will need a bandage on the ears for a couple of days. After removal, you may receive a recommendation to use a headband at night, like those used in tennis, to retain the shape of your ears until they are healed. You may experience some swelling and bruising around the ears. The bruising will disappear in one or two weeks, and the swelling will disappear completely after a couple of months.

Risks and Complications

All surgery has risks and potential complications. Although the risks are not common, it is important that you understand the potential complications and know that no surgeon can offer risk-free surgery or guarantee of perfect result. Dr. Sozer will discuss any possible risks in detail during your consultation and will be sure to answer any questions or concerns that may arise.

Surgical Center

Depending of the complexity of the ear surgery, it may be performed under local or general anesthesia. Otoplasty procedures is an outpatient procedure.
