Facelift

A facelift is a rejuvenating procedure that can combat signs of aging on the face. Facelifts can significantly improve the appearance of deep wrinkles, droopy brows, loose skin, jowls, and other signs of aging. Facelift procedures can also allow older patients to turn back the hands of time to better reflect a youthful spirit.

What is a Facelift?

Facelifts are customizable procedures that can be tailored to address each individual’s extent of aging and specific areas of concern. There are many distinct types of facelift procedures, including the mini facelift, lower facelift, and mid-facelift. For the most impactful results, the Glidelift™, an innovative procedure invented by Dr. Sozer, addresses severe signs of aging.

Facelift procedures can be categorized according to the extent of surgery and location of facial corrections. Therefore, it’s important to consider the specific areas you would like to target for improvement, your desired length of recovery, and your post-surgical expectations.

What is a Facelift Procedure Like?

A full facelift consists of a brow/forehead lift, a mid-facelift, and a neck lift. It involves not only tightening the skin, but also underlying fat and muscle. If only specific areas of concern are present, these procedures may also be done independently or in customized combinations. If the signs of aging are more minimal, a mini facelift may be performed. For more pronounced signs of aging, Dr. Sozer may recommend the Glidelift™.

Glidelift™

The Glidelift™ is an advanced facial rejuvenation surgery that was invented and perfected by our very own Dr. Ozan Sozer. Using breakthrough surgical techniques, Dr. Sozer has created a method to perform a true deep-plane facelift through a tiny incision concealed within each side of the hairline.

Once the incisions are made, he introduces a lighted retractor, a surgical instrument that allows him to lift and illuminate the skin and tissue. Once he has completed his dissection, he is able to reposition the tissues with a suture plication that restores the patients youthful anatomy.

Dr. Sozer does not remove any skin during this procedure, meaning there is no scar above the ear like you would see after a traditional facelift. Instead, once the skin has been lifted vertically to correct sagging and wrinkling, a surgical net is used to secure it in place. The surgical net is not painful, and it allows the procedure to be performed with very minimal scarring yet produces extremely impressive results.

Mini Facelift

A mini facelift is perfect for individuals with early aging and usually targets the mid or lower portion of the face. Usually, incisions are shorter and have a shorter recovery time. Most candidates range between the ages of 30-40 or have had a previous facelift and need a touchup.

Mid-Facelift

The mid-facelift can lift sagging cheeks, smooth nasal folds, and pull up the corners of the lips. This procedure can be performed alone or in combination with other facial surgeries. A mid-facelift is performed through tiny incisions placed at the temple and inside of the mouth. During the procedure, the fat pads in the cheeks will be repositioned up and over the cheekbones. This procedure is best complemented with a neck lift, if applicable.

Neck Lift

The neck lift procedure is sometimes called a cervicoplasty or platysmaplasty. Patients with excess fat on the neck, loose neck skin, and/or loose neck muscles may be candidates for a neck lift. During the procedure, the neck muscles are tightened and excess skin is removed through an incision under the chin and/or behind the ears. Not all patients are candidates for a neck lift. Alternative procedures include liposuction to the neck, Kybella® (a non-surgical injectable), and/or Coolsculpting Elite® (a non-surgical fat freezing technology).

Forehead Lift or Brow Lift

Typically, the forehead is the part of the face that begins to age the earliest. Some people start to develop frown lines, horizontal forehead wrinkles, and/or droopy brows early in life. A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, can reverse signs of aging on the forehead and restore the brows to a more desirable level. We offer several methods of forehead/brow rejuvenation at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, including Glidelift™. This procedure is best complimented with eyelid surgery.

What is Recovery Like After a Facelift?

Recovery time following a facelift surgery varies greatly among individuals. Depending on your general physical condition and the extent of your surgery, you may be able to return to non-strenuous activities one to three weeks after surgery

Bruising from a facelift typically disappears in one to two weeks, but swelling may last longer. A significant portion of the swelling will subside in the first month, but complete resolution requires six months or longer. After a facelift, patients may experience some change in the sensation of the skin or face, which can last for up to one year.

Am I a Good Facelift Candidate?

Adults of all ages make excellent candidates for facelift procedures. Although most patients are between 40 and 70 years old, any patient with good overall health may undergo a facelift procedure.

You may also be a good candidate if you:

  • Have signs of facial aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, jowls, droopy brows, and/or sagging skin
  • Are a healthy individual and do not have any medical conditions that may impair healing
  • Have realistic expectations and a positive outlook.
  • Are a non-smoker
