Botox is used as a preventative measure to smooth out and prevent the worsening of fine lines and wrinkles on the upper face. Great candidates for Botox can be the following:
- Patients 18 and up (All patients are evaluated case by case. Generally, Botox patients are 25 and older )
- Want preventative measures for fine lines and wrinkles.
- If you feel like you notice an “11” between your eyebrows that can make you look tired or unapproachable.
- If you are looking for a treatment that provides real, noticeable results with no surgery or recovery time.
How Botox Works
Botox is a simple, nonsurgical injectable procedure that temporarily reduces the appearance of moderate to severe lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles triggering wrinkle-causing muscle contractions. In some cases, Botox can also be injected into muscles to produce a “lifting” effect dependent on a patient’s candidacy. Botox should always be injected by a qualified professional.
Botox Treatment Areas
Areas most commonly injected are:
- Glabella (lines between eyebrows)
El Paso Cosmetic Surgery normally does not sell Botox by the unit but rather by the area. However, it is important that each patient is considered case by case and Botox can be adjusted, and sold by the unit if needed. Having an Allergan Trainer on our team allows our experienced nurse injectors to safely inject Botox into other off-label areas. Some of the areas may include:
- Axilla (excessive sweating)
- Masseter muscle (pronounced jawline)
- Platysmal bands on the neck
- Upper lip
- Chin and lower face
- Brow lift
Recovery & Results
There is no actual downtime with Botox. However, we do not recommend any vigorous exercise for 24 hours post-injection. A patient is also recommended not to lay flat on their back for the first four hours after injection, and to avoid alcohol consumption for 24 hours post injection to decrease the risk of bruising. Results can usually be seen within 4-10 days, with full results seen at two weeks after being treated. Treatment results usually last 3- 4months. The effects of Botox are dependent on a patient’s metabolism as this contributes to the breakdown of the product over time. It is recommended to be treated on a regular basis to retain longer results and maintain wrinkle reduction.
