What is PicoSure® Laser?

PicoSure® is an FDA-approved laser technology that uses focused energy to target and break down pigment within the complexion. The laser light energy focuses on darker pigment against the skin. The pigment absorbs the light, which damages it, and eventually causes it to break down. Over time and with consistent treatments, the broken-up pigment is reabsorbed by the body, leaving behind a clear and smooth appearance. The PicoSure® laser is one of the most effective tattoo removal lasers on the market, and can also be used to address a variety of skin and pigmentation concerns.

What is a PicoSure® Laser Treatment Like?

When you arrive for a PicoSure® treatment at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery, one of our trained staff members will take you to a private room, where a local anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area. Once the area is numbed, your clinician will use the handheld portion of the device to evenly distribute pulses of laser light over the treatment area. You may feel a sensation similar to a rubber band snapping during this process. Your PicoSure® treatment will usually take about 30 minutes to an hour to perform, depending on the area that’s being treated. PicoSure® is most commonly used on the face, neck, and chest.

Recovery and Results After a PicoSure® Laser Treatment?

There’s no downtime required after PicoSure® procedures, but you should expect to have red and sensitive skin for the first few days after your treatment. You should wear sunscreen immediately after your PicoSure® procedure to protect your sensitive skin against sun damage.

You may need three to six PicoSure® treatments to achieve your desired results. You should expect to see the best results about six to eight weeks after your final PicoSure® procedure, as the body processes and absorbs the pigment.

Am I a Good PicoSure® Laser Candidate?

You may be a good candidate for PicoSure® laser treatments if you have hyperpigmentation – such as red or brown spots – or other pigment concerns, including unwanted tattoos. PicoSure® can also benefit people with textural skin issues, including acne scarring.
