Breast Augmentation Recovery: What to Expect

Breasts can be a source of self-consciousness, especially if you feel like yours are small, oddly shaped, or asymmetrical. Breast augmentation creates your desired shape and volume, making you feel more confident about your figure. When performed by an experienced surgeon, this procedure provides results that enhance your body.

What is Breast Augmentation?

If you want to add breast volume, you may be considering breast augmentation. This popular procedure usually uses implants to create volume, shape, and symmetry. Women choose breast augmentation for many reasons, including a lifetime of small breasts or loss of volume after pregnancy or breast-feeding. This procedure gives many people a more positive body image and a boost of self-confidence.

How is Breast Augmentation Performed?

Dr. Sozer will plan the details of your procedure based on your needs. Incisions can be made around the areola, under the breast, or even in the axilla (armpit). You have several implant choices, including saline and silicone options. These implants can be placed above or below your pectoral muscles, affecting the appearance of the final results. Your consultation will allow you to learn more about your implant and surgical options.

Breast Augmentation Recovery: What to Expect

You will feel sore and experience some swelling after your procedure. We recommend having someone drive you home and assist you with tasks for the next day or two. Wear your provided surgical bra and take medications as directed. Most people feel much better by the end of the first week. Sutures typically come out around this time, and people with low-activity jobs can return to work.

You will have several follow-up visits, and your surgical team will assess your healing. You can usually resume strenuous exercises after four to six weeks. Full recovery takes about three months. In the first few months after surgery, your breasts may look higher than you expected, but they will settle into their anticipated position. You may experience some changes in sensation to your breasts or nipples that will usually return to normal.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

When performed by a skilled, experienced surgeon, breast augmentation is a safe procedure that provides excellent results. Good candidates are healthy and have reasonable expectations. Dr. Sozer will review your medical history and desired results to determine whether this procedure is right for you. Most healthy adults are good candidates and will be very satisfied with their results.

Do I Need Breast Augmentation or a Breast Lift?

When you look at your breasts, do you notice volume loss, sagging, or both? Breasts that have lost volume often start to sag, an effect often seen after pregnancy or breast-feeding. While breast augmentation can increase breast volume, only a breast lift can restore a lifted, shapely position. Many women benefit from a breast lift with breast augmentation to provide their desired contours.

This is an update to the surgery I had 5 years ago. I still look amazing, truly amazing thanks to Dr Sozar’s skills. I will never use another doctor other than Dr. Sozar. He totally went above and beyond what I expected. Everyone in his office is so kind that I still remember them 5 years after surgery.
