How Long Does a Mommy Makeover Take?

As rewarding as motherhood is, it can take quite a toll on your body. If pregnancy and nursing have left you with sagging breasts, loose skin, and stubborn fat, a mommy makeover can help restore your pre-baby body and your confidence.

What’s Included In a Mommy Makeover?

Pregnancy affects every woman a little differently and can leave you with various cosmetic concerns. That’s why mommy makeovers at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery are customized to your needs. Breast procedures, liposuction, and tummy tucks (abdominoplasty) are the most common procedures in a mommy makeover.

Many women experience changes in their breasts after childbirth. Pregnancy can result in larger, heavier breasts that don’t go away, or breastfeeding can lead to deflated, sagging breasts. Your mommy makeover might include breast augmentation to restore volume to smaller breasts, a breast lift to correct drooping, or a breast reduction for enlarged breasts.

Another common side effect of pregnancy is loose, stretched skin and stubborn fat deposits, particularly around the abdomen. A tummy tuck is often included in a mommy makeover to remove and tighten loose, excess skin around the stomach. This can also reduce stretch marks and repair torn abdominal muscles.

Liposuction may be part of your tummy tuck to remove stubborn belly fat, or can also address fat deposits elsewhere on the body. Liposuction is frequently used to slim and contour the torso, thighs, arms, and hips.

How Long Does a Mommy Makeover Take?

Depending on how many procedures are included, a mommy makeover can be an extensive surgery. Dr. Sozer will perform your mommy makeover as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia at our accredited surgical center. A mommy makeover typically takes three to six hours. Some patients may be able to return home the same day, but we may require you to stay overnight for more complex procedures.

Recovery After a Mommy Makeover

Because they’re so customizable, the recovery timeline for a mommy makeover varies greatly. The more procedures you had done, the longer recovery is likely to take. Typically, you’ll need to take two weeks off of work, and may need help with household chores and childcare during this time. Patients should wait at least four to six weeks before resuming strenuous exercise.

How Long Do Mommy Makeover Results Last?

The results of your mommy makeover will become apparent gradually as your body heals. You’ll be able to see improvements within a couple of weeks, but it takes up to a year for your full results to become visible.

You can then enjoy the benefits of your mommy makeover for several years if you maintain a healthy lifestyle and stable weight. We recommend waiting to have a mommy makeover until you’re done having children, as future pregnancies could undo your results.
