Dermal Fillers

As we age, proteins in our skin that support our skin’s structure, like elastin and collagen, begin to break down more quickly. The soft tissue and fat in our faces also begin to change and be pulled down with gravity. Many signs of aging are due to this facial volume loss.

A safe and effective option to restore lost volume in the face is dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that our experienced injectors can use to add volume under the skin, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and define facial contours.

Dermal fillers are a minimally invasive way to rejuvenate the appearance of your face without surgery or downtime. The MedSpa at El Paso Cosmetic Surgery offers several types of dermal fillers that can be used to make natural-looking enhancements. The type of dermal filler that is best for you will depend on the area you are treating and your aesthetic goals. Our experienced Nurse Injectors will give you their professional recommendation of which filler is best suited for your needs.

Lip Augmentation with Dermal Fillers

Lip augmentation is an available option for those who wish to have fuller and firmer lips. The natural aging process results in significant changes in appearance, and the lips can be especially affected. Lines often begin to form around the mouth, with their appearance deepening and becoming more noticeable over time.

Lip augmentation with dermal filler is aimed at enhancing the lips in order to bring about a younger-looking, fuller appearance. The procedure itself takes between 15 and 20 minutes and involves only a slight pinching or stinging sensation while the filler is injected into the lips. Your experienced Nurse Injector may massage your lips after the procedure and apply ice for a few minutes. Patients may request to have their lips numbed before the procedure with an injectable dental nerve block or a local anesthetic.

The results of a dermal filler injection are temporary, and most patients will require another injection 6-12 months after the first procedure. Not every patient requires full lip augmentation. In most cases, spot treatment of only certain areas of the lips may be sufficient to bring about a significant improvement in appearance.

Patients that have naturally thin lips may benefit from a more gradual treatment that improves the appearance of the lips slowly over time. Going for full lips with a single procedure is not advisable from a medical standpoint, and may result in an unnatural appearance. It would be helpful to bring pictures of people with lips that you wish to emulate, but also have realistic expectations and understand that there may be limitations to the type and extent of lip augmentation you can receive.
