How Juvéderm® XC Ultra & Ultra Plus Works
Juvéderm® XC Ultra and Ultra Plus is a hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. The hyaluronic acid gel is used to treat lines and folds on the lower face such as the Nasolabial folds and Marionettes. Juvéderm® XC Ultra and Ultra Plus are also fillers that can be used to add volume to the lips. Manufactured by Allergan and approved in 2006 by the US FDA this hyaluronic acid gel hydrates the skin by holding water and acts as a “cushioning agent” providing volume to the injected area. In 2010, the FDA approved Juvéderm® XC formulation with the local anesthetic lidocaine to provide patients with a more comfortable injection experience. Juvéderm® XC Ultra and Ultra Plus is still available without Lidocaine for those with a sensitivity to the medication. A consultation is necessary for our Registered Nurse injectors to determine which filler is best for you and the area to be corrected.
Juvéderm® XC Ultra vs Ultra Plus
Juvéderm® XC Ultra Plus consistency is a thicker version of Juvéderm Ultra. Juvéderm® XC Ultra Plus is used more often to treat and correct more severe wrinkles, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines. A proper evaluation is recommended to determine which filler is best for you.
Juvéderm® XC Ultra & Ultra Plus Treatment Areas
Juvéderm® XC Ultra and Ultra Plus are both designed to temporary correct by adding volume and plump the lips as well as smooth out other facial lines such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and other depressed areas in the face. There are other off label areas Juvéderm® XC Ultra and Ultra Plus can be used for; however, only a highly trained Registered Nurse injector or physician should administer the product. The number of syringes needed depends on the volume loss and result expected by the patient. Juvéderm® XC is also the first smooth consistency gel formulation and only hyaluronic acid dermal filler approved by the FDA to last up to one year from initial treatment.
Recovery & Results
There is no actual downtime with Juvéderm® XC Ultra or Ultra Plus. However, it is recommended to sleep on your back for the first three nights post injection as to not put any shifting pressure on the filler. Full results are seen in two weeks as swelling and bruising can occur and the product does inflate 20-30% over that two-week timeframe. Treatment results can last up to 6 months to 1 year. Although, each patient is different and results can vary on a case to case basis. It is recommended to be treated on a regular basis determined by you provider to retain the best results.
